> The above tripiṭaka gates extinguish actual form to access the true; failing to grasp the intent leads to much contention. The embodiment gates identify illusory form to access the true, showing people the dharma of non-contention. The distinctive gates bodily extinguish the form of birth and death, and progressively extinguish the form of dharma-nature to access the middle; failing to grasp the intent leads to much contention. The perfect gate identifies the form of birth and death as the form of dharma-nature, accessing the middle through the very form of dharma-nature, showing people the dharma of non-contention. Therefore, the text states, 'the unsurpassed path,' and also states, 'and walking the profound and wondrous path'—this is precisely the meaning.
