- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [3.44](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1717.3.44)

「大醫」等者，身子為大醫，五百為小醫。「支佛亦然」者，據理既不知機，明知不能用四，雖有部行但是悲心，如身子云「我非知機，但憐愍故而為說法」，可以比聲聞知也。

> Regarding "great physician" and so forth: Śāriputra was the great physician, and the five hundred were minor physicians. Regarding "pratyekabuddhas are also like this": based on principle, since they do not know capacities, it is clear that they cannot apply the four; although they have practice in groups, it is merely a compassionate mind. As Śāriputra said, "I do not know capacities; I merely preach the Dharma out of pity," this can be understood by analogy with the śrāvakas.
