> Furthermore, wishing to open the various sūtras, he first narrates the intention whereby the various sūtras do not open \[the provisional\], and only then reveals that the meaning of opening in the present sūtra differs from the former. In the present text, he first narrates the intention of the various sūtras; next, from "Thus" onward, he directly opens them. As for the first passage, according to the standard paradigm it should also generally narrate the two types and four types in the Avataṃsaka and Vaipulya, but they are omitted because the text is concise. Therein are two parts: first, he narrates the intentions of the various sūtras; next, he re-evaluates them in terms of the teachings and the principle. Now, he temporarily narrates the differences across two flavors, four sūtras, and one treatise. First, in the Large Perfection of Wisdom Sūtra it says, "all phenomena tend toward…", which is originally a passage concerning the three truths of the Perfect Teaching; now it is provisionally divided to substantiate the three meanings. The first passage on "identical to emptiness" is none other than the passage below stating that "form is still unobtainable." Because the sūtra text is not in sequence, it first explains "identical to emptiness," and subsequently lists the two meanings to correspond to the three phrases. Next, he cites the treatise text to corroborate and complete the Large Perfection of Wisdom Sūtra; however, the verse text of the Mūlamadhyamakakārikā originally had three intentions, and the various passages and meanings employ its beginning to substantiate the Tripiṭaka \[Teaching\]. Since the text below says "having already heard the twelve links of dependent origination of the Mahāyāna," one knows that the verse text is confined to the three teachings; therefore, now relying on the text, he provisionally substantiates the three intentions, and the text below naturally has two chapters belonging to the Tripiṭaka. As for "measureless" and so forth, "measureless" then issues the three from the perfect; the three sūtras from here downward are identical to the flavor of ghee, and the intention of the sūtras is fully as explained elsewhere, as can be seen in the Lotus Sūtra.
