妙法蓮華經文句 2.193

- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [2.193](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1718.2.193)

> Receptivity may be present or absent; although their stages are equal, the roles of guest and host have different appropriateness. Sages accord with receptivity; if not asked, they cannot answer. Furthermore, the approaches to the Dharma have expedient and real: the expedient one in the stage of succession must ask, and the real one must answer. Furthermore, the traces have distant and near: the near one asks, and the distant one answers. Furthermore, the names have appropriateness: Maitreya is named 'Benevolent' (Maitrī), and since benevolence is for the sake of sentient beings, he should ask; Mañjuśrī is named 'Wondrous Virtue', and virtue should answer. These are the four intentions in analyzing the text.
