- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [3.20](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1718.3.20)

> Next, he cites twenty thousand buddhas whose names and preachings of the Dharma are all identical. Initially citing one buddha fully adduced identity in preaching the sudden and gradual; in the middle, adducing twenty thousand buddhas only adduced identity in preaching the sudden, hence it says "good in the beginning, middle, and end"; later, adducing one buddha only adduced identity in opening the gradual. The reason for this is mutual representation; referring to what came before, it can be understood. And the reason for not citing the buddhas before the twenty thousand is precisely because their names and preachings were all identical; it relies on the meaning for convenience. "Whose surname was Bharadvāja": this translates as "swift", and also as "sharp faculty", and also as "fulfilled speech".
