> Third, in terms of three dharmas: the three dharmas are the inconceivable Three Truths. 'Abiding in the ground of forbearance' generally treats the Three Truths: just as having a ground upon which to rely enables one to endure insult, \[so it is here\]. 'Gentle and well-compliant' means being well-compliant with the ultimate truth, able to endure false views and cravings, cold and heat, and so forth; hence it says 'well-compliant'. 'And not rash or violent, the mind not alarmed' means resting in the conventional truth, tolerating the conditions of various faculties to suit the capacities of beings; hence it says 'not rash or violent'; realizing and enduring opposition and compliance, the mind is therefore 'not alarmed'. 'Practicing nothing with regard to dharmas', and so forth, means resting in the truth of the Middle, able to endure the two extremes; hence it says 'practicing nothing'. Abiding directly in the Middle Way, it therefore says 'contemplating the true mark'; yet not grasping the Middle and real either, it therefore says 'does not differentiate'. Thus, relying on the ground of the Three Truths is called the 'sphere'; enduring the humiliation of the five dwellings \[of afflictions\] is called 'practice'. Practice also constitutes three kinds: namely, the practice of cessation is 'practicing non-practice'; the practice of contemplation is 'neither practice nor non-practice'; the practice of compassion is 'not practicing practice'. Matching the aforementioned robe, seat, and room, this is explaining the sphere of practice in terms of three dharmas, explicating the model rule for propagating the sūtra.
