> In the explanation according to the teachings, where all say 'refuting annihilationism and eternalism': whenever debate is mentioned, refuting heterodoxy comes first, so each establishes what can refute according to its own school. As for 'relying on dhāraṇīs and the four analytical knowledges', for the time being the conventional truth samādhi is taken as the dhāraṇī. As for the 'four analytical knowledges', they are fully as in the Sequence of the Dharma Realm, using the medicine to suit the illness. As for 'refuting annihilationism and eternalism', this is because entering provisionality through craving and views first refutes annihilationism and eternalism. Furthermore, refuting annihilationism and eternalism has two meanings: first, using the various contemplations collectively to refute the annihilationism and eternalism of view delusions within the realm; in this case, all four teachings take view delusions as their object, fully as in Great Calming and Contemplation, fascicle ten. Second, their successive scopes and lengths differ: all three teachings refute view delusions within the realm, but only the separate teaching first refutes annihilationism and eternalism within the realm, next refutes the annihilationism and eternalism of emptiness and existence, and finally refutes the annihilationism and eternalism of emptiness and provisionality; the perfect teaching in a single thought refutes all three \[pairs of\] annihilationism and eternalism.
