- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [3.40](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1719.3.40)

> Next, from 'At that time' downwards, the preface on the thoughts of doubt is explained. Where it first says 'only forming a single doubt', originally he doubted the six portents; being unable through his own strength \[to resolve it\], he then considered who could answer. Thinking again that there was \[someone\], he placed his reliance upon Mañjuśrī. As the thought of Mañjuśrī arose, there was a ground for resolving the doubt, so the second thought naturally vanished here. Having already found the person, why need he think again? Hence the third thought also ceased at that time. When it came to raising the question, the first doubt still remained, and therefore it says 'a single doubt'.
