If evaluated in terms of the present sūtra, it must possess five intentions: first, to break the proximate prophecy attained through the provisional teaching; second, to break the mind of defiled attachment arising in those who first receive prophecy; third, to reveal the characteristics of prophecy and non-prophecy of the Mahāyāna gateway; fourth, to put to rest the expectant mind of those not yet fit for prophecy; fifth, for the sake of those who benefit from hearing about breaking attachment.
