> Answer: Above, using the three cycles to open the provisional and reveal the real broke the attachments of the three vehicles, which is precisely the generating of the bodhicitta. After having generated the bodhicitta, one should cultivate the bodhisattva practices. Just as in the \*Avataṃsaka\*, the youth Sudhana said to each and every spiritual friend: "I have already generated the bodhicitta, but I do not yet know how to cultivate the bodhisattva practices and train in the bodhisattva path." Therefore, following the generation of the mind is the clarification of practice. Second, speaking of the bodhisattva practices is precisely speaking of the \*Saddharmapuṇḍarīka-sūtra\*. The \*Saddharmapuṇḍarīka-sūtra\* properly clarifies the one vehicle; the one vehicle is precisely the bodhisattva practices; therefore it clarifies the one vehicle in terms of the bodhisattva practices. Hence this sūtra says: "Dharma taught to the bodhisattvas, protected and kept in mind by the buddhas." Third, the above personal teaching and corroborating teaching having been completed, it wishes to show the model for propagating the sūtra; the model is precisely the four practices; hence it speaks of the bodhisattva practices. Fourth, for those who cling to words, upon hearing above the opening of the provisional and revealing of the real, clarifying the one and discerning the three, they would immediately claim that there are three and one, and that there are opening and merging. Therefore, it is now clarified that the bodhisattva practices the true mark of all dharmas, which has neither superior, intermediate, nor inferior, and is neither one nor three, neither opening nor merging; three and one, opening and merging, are all skillful means to transform beings; hence it speaks of the bodhisattva practices. Fifth, there are people who wish to seek the buddha path, but fearing the numerous perils and hardships of saṃsāra, they regress from the bodhicitta and halt all practices of severance. Now, for the sake of these people, it clarifies that bodhisattvas have four practices that cause body and mind to be peaceful and joyful. Upon hearing this, those persons become steadfast and non-regressing; hence it speaks of the bodhisattva practices. Sixth, it is because it wishes to initiate the fruition of the Tathāgata's life span that it speaks of the bodhisattva practices. The chapter below clarifies that the Tathāgata has an inconceivable fruit, namely unhindered mastery over arising and perishing. Such a wonderful fruit necessarily comes from a wonderful cause; therefore, clarifying the bodhisattva practices now is precisely \[clarifying\] the wonderful cause. The "Chapter on Peaceful and Joyful Practice" ends here.
