> Answer: With regard to the single person of an arhat, from beginning to end there is also this meaning. Yet while the arhat has severed dull and sharp \[afflictions\] completely without having heavy grades, not recognizing the provisional and real is itself ignorance, and realizing severed emptiness is itself views; these two are precisely two defilements. Forming sentient beings through these is called the sentient being defilement; not being separated from time is the kalpa defilement; and the continuous connection of form and mind is called the life defilement. If so, an arhat possesses the five light defilements.
