> Answer: This is stated with reference to the Deer Park, where Kauṇḍinya and the eighty thousand devas attained the purity of the dharma eye. Moreover, in terms of the Hinayana meaning, the path of seeing the truths is precisely the dharma wheel. An older Hinayana interpretation says: Because the Sage expounded the path of seeing swiftly, it is called the dharma wheel. Ghoṣa is likewise, hence saying: "Or again, it is expounded that the eight branches turn and reach another's mind." The eight branches are simply the eightfold noble path, and the eightfold noble path is precisely the path of seeing. Yet Ghoṣa's explanation of "turning" does not differ from the \*Saṃyuktābhidharmahṛdaya\*, but the \*Saṃyuktābhidharmahṛdaya\* explains that turning and the wheel are both the understanding of seeing the truths. Distinguishing them according to two meanings: taking the undefiled understanding of seeing the truths, because it has the sense of crushing, it is called the wheel; because this understanding is swift, it is spoken of as turning. Ghoṣa explains that the Buddha's own awakening to the eightfold \[noble path\] reaches the minds of the five persons, which is why it is called turning.
