> Answer: If explaining the three bodies with reference to the Saddharmapuṇḍarīkopadeśa, the concealed and revealed aspects of Buddha-nature constitute two bodies, and transforming others constitutes the nirmāṇakāya. Two bodies are virtues for oneself, and one body is the virtue of transforming others. Furthermore, when explaining the meaning of the three bodies in terms of the Mahāyānasaṃgraha, they cannot possibly be more or fewer. The dharmakāya is the virtue for oneself, and the remaining two bodies are virtues of transforming others. Within transforming others there are naturally two: first, the body that transforms bodhisattvas, collectively named the Rocana body; second, the body that transforms the two vehicles, named the Śākyamuni body. Although those transformed are numerous, they do not exceed great and small. Furthermore, transforming conditions in pure lands is Rocana; transforming conditions in defiled lands is Śākyamuni; although the places of transformation are numerous, they are completely subsumed under pure and defiled. Furthermore, purely transforming bodhisattvas is Rocana; transforming the mixed \[assembly of the\] three vehicles is Śākyamuni; although those transformed are numerous, they do not exceed these two. Furthermore, the world of the lotus pedestal is Rocana; the lands of the lotus petals are Śākyamuni. Furthermore, the origin is Rocana; the trace is Śākyamuni; although the transformers are numerous, they are subsumed under only origin and traces. Furthermore, in the sense of recompense for causes it is named Rocana, and Rocana is named the saṃbhogabuddha; since transforming beings is named Śākyamuni, Śākyamuni is the nirmāṇabuddha. Furthermore, when first attaining the Way it is Rocana; after attaining the Way it is Śākyamuni.
