法華義疏 12.46

- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [12.46](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1721.12.46)

> Regarding the term "Universal Gateway" (Pumen): "universal" has the meaning of being all-pervading; "gateway" is a designation for unobstructed openness. Furthermore, a gateway is a Dharma-gate, as the \*Avataṃsaka Sūtra\* states, "Avalokiteśvara abides in the Dharma-gate of great compassion." Furthermore, because it can open the path and cause beings to be awakened and enter, it is called a gateway. The meaning of "universal" has three aspects: first, universality of knowing others' minds, meaning knowing without deliberate thought and illuminating the entire Dharmadhātu; second, universality of supernatural powers, meaning responding without moving and appearing before the ten directions; third, universality of preaching the Dharma, where there are no words to explain yet the verbal teachings permeate the eight extremities.
