- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [2.169](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1721.2.169)

> Regarding 'Moreover, they behold the buddhas, holy lords and lions': this is the second, recapitulating the transforming lord. The Madhyamakaśāstra states: 'There are three kinds of holy ones: first, non-Buddhists with the five superknowledges; second, pratyekabuddhas and arhats; third, dharmakāya bodhisattvas.' The Buddha is the greatest among the three holy ones, and therefore is called the holy lord; being the lord of the three holy ones, and furthermore the teacher of the six destinies, being sovereign and fearless toward both ordinary beings and holy ones, he is called a lion.
