> To show that the fourfold assembly of śrāvakas together return to the ekayāna, heaven rains down four kinds of flowers; to show that humans, devas, and the six destinies all attain Buddhahood, the earth trembles in six ways. As the attainment of Buddhahood by these two \[groups\] must rely on the preaching of the Lotus Sūtra, \[the Buddha\] emits light to signify this. Furthermore, heaven raining down four kinds of flowers signifies that sentient beings of the four vehicles will all become Buddhas; the earth trembling in six ways signifies that sentient beings of the six destinies will equally awaken to non-duality. As the attainment of Buddhahood by these two \[groups\] is entirely due to the preaching of the Lotus Sūtra, the omen of light signifies it. Furthermore, heaven raining down four kinds of flowers signifies that sentient beings in the heavens above ought to awaken to the ekayāna; the earth trembling in six ways signifies that conscious beings in the earth below will equally ascend to non-duality. That those above in heaven and below on earth alike completely awaken is entirely due to the Buddha's preaching of the Lotus Sūtra; hence the omen of light signifies it. Furthermore, heaven raining flowers signifies that preaching the ekayāna causes the heavenly spirits to rejoice; the earth below trembling signifies that expounding non-duality causes the earthly deities to leap with joy. That which brings about their rejoicing and leaping in every case relies upon the Buddha; hence the emitting of light signifies it.
