> As for the ten eyes: the first is the flesh eye, which sees all form; the second is the divine eye, which sees sentient beings dying here and being born there; the third is the wisdom eye, which sees the distinctions in the capacities and dispositions of sentient beings; the fourth is the Dharma eye, which sees the real aspect of all phenomena, namely seeing the ultimate-truth aspect of all phenomena; the fifth is the Buddha eye, which sees the Buddha's ten powers; the sixth is the cognition eye, which discriminates and fully knows all categories of phenomena; the seventh is the luminous eye, which sees the radiance of all Buddhas; the eighth is the eye transcending birth-and-death, which sees the phenomenon of nirvāṇa; the ninth is the unhindered eye, which sees all phenomena without obstruction; the tenth is the universal eye, which sees the equal Dharma gate of the dharmadhātu. The first of these is the previous flesh eye and also incorporates the divine eye, for seeing coarse and subtle, far and near, is the divine eye; the second, the divine eye, is the previous divine eye; the third, wisdom eye, the fifth, Buddha eye, the sixth, cognition eye, the seventh, luminous eye, the eighth, eye transcending birth-and-death, and the ninth, unhindered eye—these six kinds are the previous Dharma eye; the fourth, Dharma eye, is the previous wisdom eye, because it sees the ultimate truth; the tenth, universal eye, is the previous Buddha eye, because it universally sees the equal, true dharmadhātu.
