- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.101](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1723.1.101)

> The Eulogy says: In Sanskrit it is Gavāmpati; here it is translated as 'Bovine Appearance'. 'Jiaofanpoti' is corrupted. In the past, because he plucked a stalk of grain and several grains fell to the ground, he had to repay others by being a cow for five hundred lives. Even though he now has a human body, he still has the appearance of cow hooves and cow rumination; hence he is called the Bovine Appearance Monk.
