> Regarding pointing out the essential nature: all six destinies have the eighth, the maturation consciousness (vipāka-vijñāna), as their own-nature, which is subsumed under the non-obscured indeterminate nature. Therefore the Vijñaptimātratā\[siddhi\] says: 'This eighth consciousness is the basis for positing realms, destinies, and births.' It also says: 'This consciousness suffices as the substance of realms, destinies, and births; there is no need to postulate separately a real life-faculty.' Furthermore, sentient beings transmigrate through the five destinies and four modes of birth, and the substance of destinies and births is precisely the maturation consciousness.
