> The commentary: Rejoicing at now hearing it and defilements being exhausted. "Kè" (剋) means exclusively. In the past, practicing the small, he exclusively repented and reproached himself, not seeking the great. Furthermore, he doubted that bodhi had no share for him and did not give rise to aspiration; or again, he thought his own body had already attained liberation no different from the Buddha, and hearing the Buddha now say that the Dharma attained by the Buddha is extremely profound and hard to understand, which those of the two vehicles cannot comprehend, he doubted that the Buddha might be Māra. Now, having heard the explanation of the single reality and the three provisionals, and knowing that practicing the small in the past was the cause for the great, his regret is severed; knowing that he will become a buddha and has a share in bodhi, and that the liberation attained was the Buddha's expedient means, his doubt is also severed; his mind is opened and his thoughts resolved, and body and mind are at ease. "Tàirán" (泰然) describes being tranquil, peaceful, and joyful. Since there is neither doubt nor regret, he happily attains peace and security. If doubt and regret arose, he would constantly lack peace and security; how could he be at ease? "Duàn" (斷) is pronounced tú-guǎn; it means to cut off and sever. It is also pronounced dōu-luàn; here the first pronunciation is followed.
