> The Eulogy says: Below is the third major section: the sons continuing the transmission of the lamp. There are five parts: first, leaving household life and making a request; second, from 'At that time, that buddha accepted the request of the śrāmaṇeras' downward, granting permission and giving the main exposition; third, from 'Having preached this sūtra, he immediately entered a quiet room' downward, the sons transmitting the lamp; fourth, from 'After eighty-four thousand kalpas, the Buddha Mahābhijñājñānābhibhū' downward, the Buddha rising and giving praise; fifth, from 'The Buddha told the monks: These sixteen bodhisattvas' downward, the continuous benefit to those who are transformed. The first passage has two parts: first, the princes leaving household life and making the request; later, the ministers and attendants following them in leaving household life. In the first part there are again three: first, explaining the sons' virtues; next, explaining the request; later, explaining the intention behind the request. This is the first. They possessed six virtues: first, having transcended worldly ties and left household life to become śrāmaṇeras; second, hearing the Dharma and quickly awakening, with all faculties sharp; third, having perceptive dispositions with clear wisdom; fourth, having long encountered good conditions and previously made offerings to buddhas; fifth, firmly upholding supreme precepts and purely cultivating the brahma-faring; sixth, having aspirations set on the great fruit and seeking perfect enlightenment.
