> The commentary states: The subsequent \[verses\] summarize the two spheres. There are three parts: first, thirteen and a half verses summarize the two spheres consisting of external persons and external objective conditions as dharmas of existence; next, two and a half verses summarize the primary sphere of practice regarding internal existents and empty dharmas; finally, five and a half verses summarize the sphere of intimate approach regarding external objective conditions of true reality. In the prose section, first the sphere of practice was explained, and next the sphere of intimate approach was explained. Within the sphere of intimate approach, it first treated leaving behind external delusive existents, and later contemplated external true emptiness. Here, the verses first summarize the sphere of intimate approach concerning leaving behind external delusions; next, they clarify the sphere of internal practice; and finally, they summarize the sphere of intimate approach concerning external true dharmas. At first glance of the textual flow, it appears at first to doubly summarize both spheres—practice and intimate approach—because the concluding passage summarizes them together. However, within the first passage there is no text on the sphere of practice; it only uses the verse saying, "Toward these bad conditions one has no fearful mind, and expounds the Dharma without expecting anything." In meaning, it is precisely on account of being gentle and compliant that one is without fear and without expectation, which is termed the 'sphere of practice'. Therefore, the text mentions both, but in actuality it refers only to the sphere of intimate approach. The thirteen and a half verses on the external sphere of intimate approach are divided into two: first, twelve and a half verses summarize the sphere of intimate approach; second, one verse concludes. The first section again has two: first, six and a half verses summarize distancing from the five conditions; next, six verses summarize distancing from the four conditions; it does not versify the conditions of distraction. The first again divides into two: first, four and a half verses summarize distancing; next, two verses summarize non-distancing. This is the first. The first one and a half verses distance from four conditions: first, harm; second, corruption and confusion; third, evil actions; fourth, evil views. The subsequent three verses distance from one condition, namely, inferior friends. Opening earlier and combining later, these are also not versified in consecutive order.
