> Being described as emerging from the house and sitting is stated only with reference to the two vehicles having completed their training, having completely parted from hindrances, their minds having come to rest, and having established their fruition. Because for bodhisattvas training is not yet completed, they have not completely parted from hindrances, have not established the fruition, and their minds have not come to rest, they cannot be said to sit in the open ground. If despite these distinctions they are said to sit in the open ground, the persons of the first three fruitions should also be likewise. If one claims that those in training are also called emerging and sitting, why does the subsequent application of the parable say: 'Through the Buddha's teaching gate they emerge from the suffering and terrifying perilous paths of the triple world and attain the bliss of nirvāṇa'? Another explanation: Bodhisattvas may also be said to sit; although they do not come to rest nor do they establish a fruition, nevertheless, because they rest securely through wisdom, they can also be said to sit. Because they can subdue afflictions and emerge from fragmented \[birth and death\], there is no fault in calling it emerging from the triple world into the open ground. If so, the three fruitions should also be likewise; admitting this is also without fault. One may adopt or reject either at will.
