> Sixth is the meaning of the mutual fusion of essence and function: the dharmas of dependent origination must have their power and function mutually interacting and their entire substance harmoniously fused for dependent origination to be established. Therefore, in perfect comprehension there are also six propositions: 1. Because there is no substance that is not function, the entire substance is fully function; thus there is only mutual entry and no mutual identity. 2. Because there is no function that is not substance, there is only mutual identity and no mutual entry. 3. Function returning to substance does not obstruct function, and substance that is entirely function does not lose substance; thus, unobstructed, both are preserved, and both entry and identity appear simultaneously and unfettered. 4. The substance of substance that is fully function is obliterated, and the function of function that is fully substance is extinguished; being neither identical nor entering, they are perfectly fused into a single taste. 5. Combining the previous four propositions, they coexist unobstructed in the same dependent origination. 6. Obliterating the previous five propositions, they are non-dual and beyond words, darkly identical with the ocean of nature. The above three gates have finished clarifying the meanings in the first gate of different substances.
