> Fourth, Dharma Master Dayan of the Qi dynasty and others established four doctrinal schools: 1. The school of causes and conditions, referring to the Hīnayāna Sarvāstivāda and other schools. 2. The school of provisional designation, referring to the expositions of the Tattvasiddhi-śāstra, Sautrāntika, and others. 3. The school of non-reality, referring to the various Prajñā sūtras, which speak of the principle of identity-with-emptiness and clarify that all dharmas are not real. 4. The school of reality, referring to the Avataṃsaka and Mahāparinirvāṇa, which clarify the true principle of the dharmadhātu, Buddha-nature, and so forth.
