> Second, the purpose of its sequence: there are three. First, earlier were precepts, next is concentration, because of the sequential order of meanings; therefore it must follow. Second, in the preceding stage one was able to uphold subtle categories of precepts, but had not yet purely perfected mundane samādhi and samāpatti or perfected the retention of heard Dharma in dhāraṇī; in order to cause one to attain these, this bhūmi is spoken to cause one to cultivate and learn diligently, relying on the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra. Third, the first three bhūmis collectively correspond to the mundane dharmas of giving, precepts, and cultivation; the first two are giving and precepts, and this one reveals cultivation; therefore it follows.
