> Fourth, concerning the discrimination in terms of great wisdom: The treatise names this 'the contemplation based on faith and entry into the capable and incapable.' The past two factors are capable with respect to the present, and incapable with respect to the future; the three factors of craving and so on are capable with respect to the future, and incapable with respect to the past. Alternatively explained: the past two are capable, and the present five are incapable; the present three are capable, and the future two are incapable—because what can produce is capable, and what is produced is incapable. Bodhisattvas bring this up to transform people, causing them to leave behind the heterodox and enter the orthodox; hence it is called 'faith and entry.' Being based on the illumination of the bodhisattva's wisdom, it is called 'contemplation.' When it says 'the preceding, intermediate, and subsequent transformations are superior,' it re-explains this to establish that preceding, intermediate, and subsequent are capable and incapable, and the superiority of transformation is faith and entry. That is to say, illuminating the three periods to transform sentient beings constitutes the wisdom of all modes.
