> Third, the central purport: the central purport clarifies the utilization of the marks and virtues of the Tathāgata. It is briefly treated in two gates: First, determining the delimitation: since the thirty-two marks are adorned by the eighty minor physical excellences, it is known that the marks numbering the dust motes of ten Padmagarbha \[worlds\] each individually possess physical excellences equal to the number of dust motes. Furthermore, since these major marks are each individually deep and vast, unlike the marks among the thirty-two, it is known that the minor physical excellences are also extremely deep, vast, and immeasurable. Second, distinguishing the karmic functions: as for the eighty minor physical excellences, they merely adorn the physical Buddha and generate pure faith. Now, in clarifying the minor marks here, when the Buddha was a bodhisattva, the function at the lowest position of the wheel of marks and minor physical excellences was that emitting a single light illuminated lands numbering the dust motes of ten worlds, and hell beings were all able to be born in heaven, accomplishing the ten bhūmis, the ten eyes and ears, and so forth. The fragrance of the pores of this deva prince then universally perfumed sentient beings, who also attained the ten bhūmis and became pure white cakravartins. Furthermore, these cakravartins emitted light, again causing immeasurable sentient beings to again attain the ten bhūmis, the ten eyes, and so forth. Thus rolling on until the end of the future, lateral and borderless, all are ineffable. If the bodhisattva's minor marks are already like this, the sovereign utilization of the ocean of the Tathāgata's major marks is ineffable and ineffable.
