> Second, in 'abiding', within the prose there are two parts: First, fully indicating the number, meaning that any single world is endowed with what such land-dust-motes rely upon, hence it says 'each and every'. Second, briefly listing seven matters: 1. abiding by reliance on the power of goodness and purity; 2. abiding by reliance on non-obstruction; 3. abiding by reliance on wish-fulfilling jewels or everything; 4. abiding by reliance on penetrative clarity; 5. abiding by reliance on the power of dependent origination; 6. held by reliance on the dharmakāya; 7. abiding by reliance on the vows of the dharmadhātu. According to the Dà zhìdù lùn, mahā means great, na means non-, and ga means fault; this is explained according to the meaning of faultlessness. It also says that it is sometimes called 'great elephant', which has great strength among those that travel on land; or it is called 'great dragon', which has great strength among those that travel in water. Furthermore, the former is like a well-tamed elephant capable of destroying enemy forces, in terms of benefit of oneself; the latter is like a great dragon bringing down rain, in terms of benefit of others. In the verses there are sixteen and a half \[gāthās\], divided into nine: 1. one gāthā versifies abiding relying on adornments; 2. one gāthā versifies abiding in empty space; 3. two gāthās versify abiding relying on jewels; 4. one gāthā versifies the Buddha's light, meaning majestic spiritual power; 5. one gāthā versifies mighty champions; 6. five gāthās versify the land-dust-motes indicated above, which is still brief compared to this; 7. two gāthās versify illusory karma; 8. one gāthā versifies the power of Samantabhadra's vows; 9. two and a half gāthās universally reveal the characteristics of abiding in Indra's net: the first gāthā manifests the dependent and the proper within a single dust mote, and the latter one and a half can be understood as analogizing to multiple dust motes.
