> Second, distinguishing the secondary from the primary, there is the scattered exposition of all the Buddhas and bodhisattvas responding to capacities to reveal the Dharma. In terms of assemblies, there are sixty-two in total: the initial eight assemblies are as revealed above; next, in terms of the bodhisattvas responding to capacities to gather and transform, there are fifty-four assemblies. Classified in general outline, they form five sections: first, there are forty-one stages, named the phase of cultivating practice assigned to stages. Within this, first is the single assembly of Mañjuśrī east of the City of Awakening, causing Sudhana to enter the stage of faith of the dharmadhātu. Next, with the bhikṣu Meghasvara on Mount Samana in the country of Rāmāvarānta, Sudhana is caused to attain the samādhi of the light of the universal gate and the Dharma-gate of observing and mindfully contemplating all Buddhas; and so forth, down to the tenth, the maiden Maitrāyaṇī in the city of Siṃhavijṛmbhita, who causes Sudhana to attain the Dharma-gate of the universal adornment of the perfection of prajñā. These ten stages above cause Sudhana each to attain one Dharma-gate, fulfilling the stages of the ten abodes. Next, from the bhikṣu Sudarśana in the country of Trāyastriṃśa, who causes Sudhana to attain the lamp-light Dharma-gate of conforming to bodhisattvas, down to the tenth, the renunciant non-Buddhist named Sarvānugata in the city of Tuṣita, who causes Sudhana to attain the Dharma-gate of reaching all places. These ten stages above each cause Sudhana to attain one Dharma-gate, fulfilling the stages of the ten practices. Next, the elder Utpalabhūti in the country of Samantamukha causes Sudhana to attain the Dharma-gate of entering fragrances; and so forth, down to the tenth, the earth spirit of the bodhimaṇḍa in Magadha named Sthāvarā, who causes Sudhana to attain the Dharma-gate of the bodhisattva's indestructible treasury. These ten stages above each cause Sudhana to attain one Dharma-gate, fulfilling the stages of the bodhisattva's ten dedications. Next, from the night goddess Vāsanti in Kapilavastu, who causes Sudhana to attain the Dharma-gate of light universally illuminating all dharmas and dispelling the ignorance of sentient beings; and so forth, down to the tenth, the Śākya maiden named Gopā in Kapilavastu, who causes Sudhana to attain the Dharma-gate of distinguishing and observing the ocean of samādhis of all bodhisattvas. These ten stages above each cause Sudhana to attain one Dharma-gate, fulfilling the stages of the bodhisattva's ten grounds. The forty-one above conclude the general explanation of the phase of cultivating practice assigned to stages.
