### [11.29](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1735.11.29)

> Second, specifically revealing the layout and adornments. The text is divided into six: 1. the surrounding Cakravāḍa mountains; 2. the jewelled ground; 3. the fragrant oceans; 4. the fragrant rivers; 5. the groves of trees; 6. the overall conclusion. Each has separate verses. Now, as for the first: the Cakravāḍa mountains are formed by the virtue of pure morality, embracing within and guarding against without. In the prose there are three parts: first, generally citing what they rely upon; second, from 'sandalwood' downwards, specifically revealing their essence and marks; third, from 'such' downwards, concluding their inexhaustible virtues. Now, as for the first: the place where the mountains rely is precisely the perimeter of the ground surface. It is called the 'king of sun-jewels' because it is the ground that serves as the supporting base. The older translation of the sūtra states: 'abiding relying on the ground of the lotus sun-jewel king.' There are also those who say: 'Upon the great flower there is separately this lotus, which serves as that upon which the mountains rely.' The meaning seems unharmonious. The reason why the ground receives this name is that the former flower was named 'stamens of various radiances', and the verse says 'blazing light forms a wheel', and also says 'emitting pure light from amidst all jewels'; hence we know that this flower takes jewels as its essence. Thus, the jewel king that is like the sun's disc is the lotus flower; this is an overall appellation for the flower. Second, regarding the specific explanation: previously, taking firmness and sharpness, it was provisionally called vajra; now, clarifying its endowment with virtues, there are briefly ten marks: the first four are the perfection of its self-nature, and the latter six are external ornamental marks. 1. The body is the overall form: the round clarity of mani and the fragrant richness of sandalwood are both the virtues of morality. 2. The mountain peaks, meaning towering alone and transcendent, awe-inspiringly subduing all evils. 3. The mountain wheel: the ancients had two meanings: first, the curved places of the mountain; second, protruding from the mountain's side like a lion throne. A half-moon forms a wheel; according to the verse text below, the wheel resides below the mountain, serving as that upon which the mountain relies. 4. The conditions that form the mountain: the three things cited above each have distinct essences; now it reveals that the vajra internally contains blazing light, universally forming its essence. Just as worldly earth and stone intermingle to form a mountain, because vajra is everywhere it receives the name of golden wheel. The remaining six are clear from the text, and are all amidst the mountains.
