> Sixth, contemplating the ten matters of mental karma: they are all functions of the mind, and are therefore called karma. They are examined in terms of the five omnipresent \[mental factors\]. (1) Volition (cetanā); (2) perception (saṃjñā); the next four are contact (sparśa); the last four are feeling (vedanā). The single factor of mental attention (manaskāra) pervades all ten sections in general, which is why it was said earlier, "with mental attention, observe." The above four sections are also each an aggregate. Here, what difference is there between volition, etc., and the mind? Mental factors such as volition have two meanings: first, supporting the primary mind, they are subsumed under the preceding category; second, arising from the mind to initiate function, they are gathered under this position; hence, they are mostly distinguished in terms of receiving objects. If one wishes to refute them, since they are examined in terms of the omnipresent factors that span the three natures, they are not pure practice. The rest may be known by analogy with the preceding.
