> Twenty-three: Giving the jeweled crown and topknot jewel combines two things into one pariṇāmanā. Regarding the sixth, the luminous pearl of wisdom and so forth: its essence is round, its virtues complete; illuminating thoroughly, delusion is abolished—thus it is the luminous pearl of wisdom. It is that upon which the ultimate fruit relies, hence named 'upon the crown of the head'; it is secret and wondrous, which none can see. It is also because the provisional conceals the real that it is called 'within the topknot'. Opening the provisional to reveal the real is therefore called 'untying the topknot'. The text has no word for untying, but it is introduced conveniently here. If one does not clearly untie it, the Buddha possesses a secret treasury. What precedes and follows can be understood.
