> Twenty-seven: Giving the eyes. The Mahāprajñāpāramitā-śāstra, fascicle fourteen, explains that giving has three kinds: food and drink are inferior, precious jewels are middling, and head, eyes, and the five internal organs are superior, as explained in detail there. Within the practice of giving in the text, there are four parts: (1) stating the heading and citing precedents; (2) from 'bodhisattva mahāsattva' onward, giving rise to the supreme mind; (3) from 'for the sake of the ultimate' onward, clarifying the purpose of the practicing mind, which can be understood; (4) from 'O sons of the Buddha' onward, displaying the ritual form of giving. Second, the practice of pariṇāmanā: vowing to accomplish the ten eyes, which is largely identical to the 'Leaving the World' chapter with slight differences.
