> Second, directly clarifying the pariṇāmanā is divided into two: first, dedicating toward bodhi; second, from "O sons of the Buddha, as the bodhisattva-mahāsattva does for his own body" onward, dedicating to sentient beings. In the first there are twenty vows, divided into three: the first ten vows are vows to accomplish wisdom and practice, which are the cause and fruit of bodhi. Second, from "obtaining samādhi" onward, four vows to universally benefit sentient beings, which are the cause and fruit of transformative function: 1. the basis of transformation, 2. the time and place of transformation, 3. knowing the medicine and curing, 4. knowing the appropriateness for the sickness. Third, from "obtaining sovereignty" onward, six vows to universally adorn Buddha-kṣetras, which are the cause and fruit of the pure lands: 1. wisdom of supernormal powers adorning and purifying phenomenal lands, 2. wisdom entering noumenon adorning lands of dharmatā, also because non-adornment is adornment, 3. wisdom of the non-obstruction of noumenon and phenomena adorning lands of Indra's net, 4. using the preceding three adornments to transform sentient beings. The above four are the perfection of causes; the latter two are the fulfilment of fruits. Second, dedicating to sentient beings has three textual parts: first, restating what came before to introduce what follows, which is restating the previous three sections in reverse order from the end. Second, from "namely" onward, directly revealing the pariṇāmanā, the text having eight phrases: the first two are vows to be free from the three obstacles, the word "obstacle" having the meaning of encompassing afflictions; the next four accomplish the four wisdoms; the last two conclude the two fruits, meaning bodhi and nirvāṇa. Bodhi is not only the four wisdoms, hence it says "immeasurable." Third, from "O sons of the Buddha" onward, generally concludes what is undertaken.
