> Second, from "Child of the Buddha, abiding in this samādhi..." onward, explaining the benefits of the samādhi. It briefly raises seven kinds of benefits, each having "Child of the Buddha" to distinguish them. First is the benefit of swiftly accomplishing practices and vows, which has a heading, inquiry, and explanation, which can be understood. Second is the benefit of the seal of Dharma being identical with the Buddha, having ten phrases in five pairs: the first two are identity in merit and wisdom; the next two are identity in the objects and wisdom of the two truths; the next two are identity in essence and function; the next two are identity in the two benefits; the last two are identity in skillfulness and equality. Third is the benefit of bringing others to maturity through virtue, which can be understood. Fourth is the benefit of wisdom and virtue encompassing all, wherein there are two: first, the analogy; next, the application, each having ten phrases. In the application, the general heading applies to initially obtaining it; the ten phrases apply to the previous ten matters, with only eight and nine being out of sequence, because although wisdom is one, it conforms to the distinctions among what is known. (1) Buddha-realms applies to colors and marks; (2) sentient beings applies to physical forms; (3) transformations applies to manifestations; (4) entering Buddhas applies to retinue, since they serve reciprocally as host and companion, like a retinue; (5) penetrating the Buddha Dharma serves as the requisites that aid the path; (6) universally gathering pure dharmas then indicates instructing people with a perfect voice; (7) causing all to enter the Dharma is precisely spiritual penetrations; (8) pure universal vision leaps over to apply to wise understanding; (9) sovereignty turns back to apply to sovereignty; (10) abiding in dharmas applies to the function of wisdom. Fifth is the benefit of physical majesty being pre-eminent, which has a heading and an explanation. Sixth is the benefit of causing others to attain perfection; it first recaps what came before to introduce what follows, and next inquires into and lists the names and marks. Seventh is the benefit of turning to perform Buddha-work; it also first recaps what came before to introduce what follows, and next inquires into and lists the names and marks. The text may be understood in all these cases. (From here on enters the forty-second fascicle of the sūtra.)
