> Part five of the major text, from "Disciples of the Buddha, this Dharma gate" onward, is the section on revealing the titles and receiving and upholding. Within it, there are two parts: first the prose, and second the verses. Now for the first. According to the Jin version of the sūtra, before this the bodhisattvas posed two questions, namely: what is the name of this sūtra, and how should it be upheld? Now there is only the answer, which is divided into two parts: first, revealing the titles; second, from "Disciples of the Buddha, this Dharma gate" onward, explaining receiving and upholding, so that they may know the general titles. Inquiring into the name to seek the purport, recognizing the method of receiving and upholding, and practicing in accordance with it. Now for the first, there are ten names, divided into five pairs: 1. The pair of inner profundity and outer transcendence: meaning inwardly realizing the secret treasury of the three virtues, while outwardly ordinary people and small vehicles cannot fathom it. 2. The pair of realizing tranquility and opening wisdom. 3. The pair of manifesting the fruit and accomplishing the cause: meaning that the myriad virtues of the pure nature are themselves the Buddha-seed, and now the ten gates of manifestation are precisely the meaning of manifestation. 4. The pair of transcending the world and according with the Buddha: the world does not even know it, so how could it destroy it? These ten are generally the sphere of the Buddha's scope. 5. The pair of purifying the faculties and expounding the real: knowing that sentient beings and the Buddha share the same source, one is therefore able to purify them. The nature that changes not according with conditions is the origin of all Buddhas. And the non-obstruction of nature and marks, and the perfect interpenetration of cause and fruit, constitute the inconceivable; beyond this there is nothing else, making it the ultimate Dharma. The first nine are specific meanings, and the final one generally encompasses them.
