> Regarding the Commentary's 'The "Tathāgatotpattisambhava Chapter" states' and so on, it adduces proof. It briefly cites two sūtras: first, it cites the 'Tathāgatotpattisambhava Chapter', which states: '...down to saying, suppose all...' and so on. What falls within the 'down to' ought to state: 'Because bodhi is without characteristics and without non-characteristics, and is devoid of oneness and devoid of multiplicity. Sons of the Buddha! Suppose someone could transformatively manifest minds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, and each mind were again transformatively to manifest Buddhas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, all devoid of form, shape, and characteristics. \[Suppose he did so\] ceaselessly for kalpas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges. Sons of the Buddha! What do you think? As this person by transformative minds transformatively manifests Tathāgatas, how many Tathāgatas' natures arise in all?' Bodhisattva Wonderfully Virtuous (Mañjuśrī) said, 'As I understand the meaning of what you have spoken, the transformed and the non-transformed are equal and without difference. Why do you ask how many there are in all?' Samantabhadra Bodhisattva said, 'Excellent, Son of the Buddha! It is just as you have spoken.'' From 'Suppose all sentient beings' onward is the same as in the Commentary. At the very end it says, 'because all are equal through being devoid of characteristics,' which by paraphrasing should read 'equal and without difference.' Why is this? Because bodhi is devoid of characteristics. If it is devoid of characteristics, then there is neither increase nor decrease.
