> As for the commentary's "Third, conditioned arising through mutual dependence": the commentary text has three parts: first, general; next, specific; afterward, concluding. Now for the first, which also has three: first, generally revealing the multiple gates—the "great conditioned arising" is distinguished from the internal and external, defiled and pure conditioned arising of a single phenomenon. For example, externally, with water, earth, human labor, and seasons serving as conditions, sprouts arise. Internally, with ignorance, volitional formations, and so forth serving as conditions, consciousness and so forth arise. Now it is not like that; it comprehensively gathers the dharmadhātu into a single conditioned arising, hence it is called "great." Moreover, a single conditioned arising possesses multiple doctrinal gates and completely accords with the dharmadhātu; this is the great conditioned arising. It is unlike the triyāna, which merely clarifies that dharmas arisen through causes and conditions lack intrinsic nature, and nothing more. In the commentary, from "Regarding the complete school" downward, is the second: putting forth the headings of the chapters and gates. In the commentary, from "The dharmas of conditioned arising" downward, is the third: revealing the ten reasons.
