> Regarding the commentary's "Sixth, the essence of subsuming objects into consciousness only" and so forth: the text of the commentary is divided into two: first is a general clarification; next, from "However, there are" downwards, opening the topics to explain them separately. The first part also has two: first, the direct clarification, and second, citing scriptural proofs. Now for the first: The previous five essences are all transformed by the mind; outside the mind there are no dharmas. Just as sound is form and is an image manifested by the mind, how much more so nominal entities conventionally established on the basis of sound! What the teaching expresses and the manifestation of meaning by all dharmas are both without essence apart from the mind.
