> Regarding the Commentary's "In terms of the dharmakāya" and so forth: this is the perspective of the fourth, the sudden teaching. As for "There is neither attainment nor non-attainment": the sūtra states, "Just as worlds have formation and destruction, yet space neither increases nor decreases; when all buddhas attain bodhi, there is no distinction between attainment and non-attainment." Since there is no attainment, how could there be non-attainment? Furthermore, its essence is limpid and quiescent, hence it is said that "there is no attainment"; it does not obstruct concordance with conditions, hence "there is no non-attainment." This fulfills the intent of the final teaching.
