> Regarding the Commentary's words, "Also causes the rākṣasas of craving and views not to harm the dharmakāya and the life of wisdom": in the analogy of the floating bladder in the eleventh fascicle of the Nirvāṇa Sūtra, where the rākṣasa begs for the floating bladder, it is correlated with the rākṣasas of craving and views. This means all sentient beings break the precepts either due to the defilement of craving—as when someone clearly believes in cause and effect and holds right view in mind, but merely being bound by delusion, subsequently breaks the prohibitive precepts, which is called the craving rākṣasa; or secondly, because their views are improper, they repudiate cause and effect, give rise to various wrong views such as the views of annihilationism and eternalism, and thereupon break the prohibitive precepts, maintaining that breaking them is without fault, which is called the view rākṣasa. But whereas that sūtra speaks of causing them to break precepts, here it is harming the life of wisdom; through this they differ, but the meaning of rākṣasa is the same.
