> Regarding the commentary's statement, "Then it reveals that within each part, cause and fruit are both covered": this means that although the questions vary in brevity and detail, cause and fruit are both complete; they are merely repeated questions. Fourth, from "Then from this, exhausting the light..." downward directly points to the text of the answers. In the commentary, from "Furthermore, regarding the forty questions..." downward, the second part explains in terms of the collective and the particular. The ten oceans are the collective; the remaining thirty phrases are particular, all subsumed by the ten oceans; hence, answering the ten oceans collectively already answers the remaining thirty questions. Therein are two parts: first, directly answering the ten oceans by means of the nine assemblies; afterward, from "As for the sequence in the questions..." downward, contrasting the answers with the questions to distinguish differences in sequence. In the questions, the statement "First there are worlds and sentient beings" refers to the originally existing three oceans in the outline: "worlds" refers to the ocean of worlds and subsumes the ocean of establishments. Next, "then Buddhas appear, cultivate causes, and attain the fruit..." and so forth refers to what is accomplished through cultivation in the outline, which is the intention of self-benefit. The phrase "the remaining four are all the great functions adapting to circumstances..." and so forth refers to benefiting others in the outline.
