> Regarding the commentary's text from "Some say..." onward: this is the second part, bringing up the past \[interpretation\] and broadly refuting it. Saying "it is extremely reckless (menglang)": lang means drifting (liulang), and meng also means fierce (meng). The Zhuangzi, in the "Qiwu lun" chapter, says: "Ququezi asked Changwuzi, saying: 'I have heard this from the master: The sage does not engage in worldly affairs; he does not pursue gain nor avoid harm; he takes no pleasure in seeking nor clings to paths; to say nothing is to say something, and to say something is to say nothing; and he roams beyond the dust and grime. The master considered these reckless words (menglang zhi yan), but I considered them the practice of the wondrous Way. What does my master think of them?'" The explanation says: Now we do not take the matter itself, but only the provenance of the term "reckless" (menglang). "Reckless" refers to careless and unreflective words, showing them to be baseless. Xiang Xiu says: "It refers to being vague and drifting, without anything to pursue or abandon." These two characters must be used together.
