> Regarding the commentary's statement from "If one were to say it is explained in terms of shared phenomena" onward, this concludes by rebuking the ancient masters. It means that the ten phenomena adduced by the sūtra are all explained in terms of interfused subsumption. If one followed the old interpretation, why would it not state that within each world-ocean defilement and purity are without difference, or that within each world-ocean the suffering endured by sentient beings is without difference? Because within world-oceans there is both defilement and suffering, the commentary concludes: "Could it be that these are utterly absent from the world-oceans?" Since the present sūtra does not say this, one clearly knows that it explains non-difference in terms of interfused subsumption. The Chapter on the Formation of Worlds ends.
