> Regarding the commentary's statement, "The Buddha within it expounds the universal Dharma": concerning this universal Dharma, it inherently has four meanings. First, expounding object and cognition together: illuminating both the real and conventional is called "universal"; wonderful wisdom illuminating and penetrating is named "light." Second, expounding solely in terms of the object: its essence being all-pervading is called "universal"; its function penetrating through is "light." Third, expounding solely in terms of cognition: this can be known by analogy with the object. Fourth, expounding in terms of fusion and subsumption: both phenomena and principle are without obstruction; a single dust mote and a single practice are like Indra's net, which is called "universal"; perfectly manifest and brilliantly shining is "light." The rest is as in the ten mysteries.
