> Regarding the Commentary: "There are also four directions as in the 'Chapter on the Ten Samādhis'," this is in the forty-second \[fascicle\], where the metaphor of Lake Anavatapta matches the four directions of the lake, saying: "O sons of the Buddha! What are the four directions of a bodhisattva? They are: seeing all Buddhas and attaining awakening (1); hearing all dharmas and retaining them without forgetting (2); fulfilling all practices of the pāramitās (3); and preaching the Dharma with great compassion to satisfy sentient beings (4)." The explanation says: if one contemplates these four, this constitutes the path of the bodhisattva.
