> Regarding the commentary's "from affliction arise affliction and karma": this is a verse from the Kośa, which in full says: "From affliction arise affliction and karma; from karma arises the actuality; from the actuality, actualities and afflictions arise: such alone is the principle of the factors of existence." This stanza will be explained in the context of the sixth bhūmi. Here, only this phrase is needed: "from affliction arises affliction" refers to grasping arising from craving; "from affliction arises karma" refers to existence arising from grasping, and formations arising from avidyā. The "actuality" is suffering itself; here, discussing only the \[truth of\] origination, it mentions only affliction and karma.
