> Regarding the commentary's statement, "Being able to contemplate the mind-nature, according with principle and unmoving": the upper line is the meaning of the \*Nirvāṇa Sūtra\*. Fascicle twenty-seven of that sūtra, the "Chapter on the Lion's Roar", says: "Because it establishes three grades of concentration." The sūtra says: "Good son! All sentient beings possess three kinds of concentration, namely superior, middling, and inferior. The superior is the Buddha-nature; therefore it is said that all sentient beings completely possess the Buddha-nature. The middling is that all sentient beings are fully endowed with the first dhyāna and so on. The inferior is the mental-factor of concentration among the ten universal mental factors." Here it is cited only according to its meaning. From "according with principle and unmoving", this is explained conceptually. Contemplating its mind-nature is the gate of contemplation. Yet it is called "concentration" because mind-nature is principle, and contemplation accords with principle; being in resonance with principle, it is serenely unmoving, hence called "concentration".
