- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [38.72](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1736.38.72)

> Regarding the commentary from "When emotion reaches principle" down: this corresponds to "Sounds of praise should be harmonious and joyful; sounds of lament should be sorrowful and reflective." To grieve when grief is appropriate and to rejoice when joy is appropriate is to reach principle. "Causing them to experience joy and revulsion" has two meanings: first, it fulfills the above revulsion at its sorrow and joy at its happiness—revulsion at the suffering of saṃsāra and joy in the bliss of nirvāṇa; second, it corresponds to the above 'its sentiment is poignant and its diction refined'—because it is refined, it inspires joy; because it is poignant, it inspires revulsion.
